Maruti Suzuki is getting ready to make its SUV lineup bigger with the much-awaited 7-seater version of its popular Grand Vitara. This new model is expected to arrive in India by the end of 2025, maybe around the Diwali holiday time in November. With test cars being seen on Indian roads, people are getting excited about a roomier version of the middle-sized SUV.
Design and Look
The 7-seater Grand Vitara will probably look similar to the 5-seater version but with clear changes to fit the extra row of seats and make it look different. Spy photos suggest a longer shape and maybe a newly designed front part, including a changed grille, bumper, and updated headlights with new LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). Unlike the 5-seater’s split headlight design, the 7-seater might have more regular headlights with built-in LED DRLs and possibly lights that help when you turn.
The back of the car is also likely to have updates, with expectations of connected LED backlights and a new back bumper to go with the longer size. New designs for the wheels are also expected to give the 7-seater a special look.
Inside and Features
While official pictures of the inside haven’t been shown yet, the 7-seater Grand Vitara is expected to offer both 6-seat and 7-seat choices. A bigger touch screen for entertainment is likely. Features already in the 5-seater model, like a big glass roof, seats that cool in the front, a wireless phone charger, a driver’s seat that moves in 8 ways with electricity, and a display on the windshield (HUD), are expected to be included.
For safety, the 7-seater will likely have six airbags as standard, along with a system that checks tire pressure (TPMS) and a camera that shows all around the car. There are also strong signs that Maruti Suzuki might add Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which could include features like cruise control that adjusts to traffic, warnings if you leave your lane, and automatic braking in emergencies.
Engine Choices
The 7-seater Grand Vitara is expected to use the same engine choices as the 5-seater model:
- 1.5-liter K15C mild-hybrid gasoline engine: This engine produces 101.65 bhp of power and 136.8 Nm of turning force. It’s expected to be available with both a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
- 1.5-liter strong-hybrid gasoline engine: This engine, from Toyota, makes 113.97 bhp of power and 141 Nm of turning force and comes with an e-CVT transmission.
It’s not clear if Maruti Suzuki will add any new engine options just for the 7-seater version. Both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options are expected to be offered, like the current model.
Expected Price and Competition
The price for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater is expected to be higher than the 5-seater version, probably costing between ₹ 14 lakh to ₹ 27 lakh, depending on the specific model and features. This will put it in competition with other popular 7-seater SUVs in the Indian market, including:
- Hyundai Alcazar
- Tata Safari
- MG Hector Plus
- Mahindra XUV700
- Kia Carens
The arrival of the 7-seater Grand Vitara is a smart move by Maruti Suzuki to make its presence stronger in the competitive SUV market and meet the growing need for family cars with more seats. Its launch is something people are really waiting for and is expected to make the competition even tougher in the middle-sized SUV group.
