Indian car startup Vayve Mobility has launched what is now the most affordable electric car in India, the Vayve Eva, with a starting price of ₹3.25 lakh (price before taxes). This small car, designed for city use, claims to travel up to 250 kilometers on a single charge and even has an optional solar roof to add to its battery power.
The Vayve Eva was first shown to the public at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, and it created a lot of excitement because it was both cheap and had interesting new features. People have already started booking the car by paying a small amount of ₹5,000.
Main Features of the Vayve Eva:
- Price: Starting at ₹3.25 lakh (price before taxes) for the Nova model with a plan to pay for the battery as you use it. The price to buy it outright, without this plan, starts at ₹3.99 lakh.
- Range: Claims to travel between 125 km and 250 km depending on the model (Nova, Stella, and Vega) and the battery size (9 kWh, 12.6 kWh, and 18 kWh respectively).
- Solar Charging: An optional bendable solar panel on the roof can add up to 10-12 km of travel each day if there is enough sunlight.
- Battery Subscription: Vayve offers a special way to pay for the battery where you pay ₹2 for every kilometer you drive, with a minimum number of kilometers you need to pay for each year for each model (600 km for Nova, 800 km for Stella, and 1200 km for Vega). This makes the initial cost of buying the car much lower.
- Running Cost: The company says it costs very little to run, around ₹0.50 per kilometer.
- Charging: Can be charged using regular home charging and fast charging stations. The top Vega model can be charged from 10% to 70% in about 20 minutes using a fast charger. Charging at home takes about 5 hours to fully charge all models.
- Performance: The electric motor at the back produces 40 Nm of power, allowing the Vega model to go from 0-40 km/h in 5 seconds. The fastest it can go is 70 km/h.
- Features: The Eva comes with things like two digital screens (one for entertainment and one for showing car information), phone connection with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a system that checks the air pressure in the tires, a camera for backing up, and a cooled storage box. The top Vega model also has an airbag for the driver and a place to charge a laptop.
- Seating Capacity: The Vayve Eva has seats for three people: one driver seat in the front and a bench for two people in the back.
- Size: Its small size (less than 3 meters long) makes it perfect for driving on crowded city roads and parking in small spaces.

How it Fits in the Market and Who it Competes With:
The Vayve Eva is meant to be an affordable and useful electric car for driving in cities. It could be a second car for families or a better option than a motorcycle or scooter. While it is currently the cheapest electric car in India, it will compete with other upcoming and existing affordable electric cars like the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. However, its solar charging and battery payment options make it different.
Making and Delivering the Cars:
Vayve Mobility plans to start making the Eva for sale in the middle of 2026, and they expect to start delivering them in the second half of 2026, starting in cities like Pune and Bengaluru.
The Vayve Eva is an interesting choice for people on a budget who want to switch to electric cars. It offers a good mix of low price, decent travel distance, and new features like solar charging. Whether it does well in the Indian market will depend on how it performs in real life and if people like their battery payment plan.
