The Maruti Wagon R has long held a special place in the hearts of Indian car buyers. Now, for 2025, this trusted hatchback receives key enhancements, most notably a significant upgrade to safety features, ensuring its appeal continues for years to come.
New improvements for 2025 that make it safer and have better technology. Here’s what’s new:
Better Safety:
- Six Airbags Now Standard: The biggest change is that all versions of the car now have six airbags (two in the front, two on the sides, and two like curtains). Before, it only had two in the front. This makes the Wagon R safer, like other Maruti Suzuki cars such as the Brezza and Celerio.
- Better Seatbelt in the Back Middle: The person sitting in the middle in the back now has a seatbelt with three straps, which is safer. Before, it only had a belt across the lap.
- Other Safety Things: The Wagon R still has other safety features like ABS (a system that helps you brake without skidding), EBD (which helps the brakes work better), ESP (which helps keep the car stable), sensors that tell you when you’re backing up, and a central lock.
Other Changes and Features:
- Can Use E20 Fuel: The new Wagon R can now use E20 fuel, which is a mix of 20% ethanol and 80% regular gas. This is part of India’s plan to use different kinds of fuel.
- Looks and Engine Mostly the Same: The way the car looks and the engines it uses are mostly unchanged. You can still choose between a small 1.0-liter engine with three cylinders and a slightly bigger 1.2-liter engine with four cylinders. Both engines now follow the newest rules for pollution.
- What Kind of Gearbox: You can pick either a 5-speed manual gearbox (where you change gears yourself) or a 5-speed AMT gearbox (which changes gears automatically). The 1.0-liter engine also comes with a CNG (natural gas) option that has a manual gearbox.
- Screen Inside: Some versions of the car have a 7-inch touchscreen inside where you can connect your Android phone or your iPhone.
- Other Things Inside: Depending on which version you get, the Wagon R might have nicer wheels (14-inch alloy wheels), a dashboard with two colors, power windows, mirrors that adjust with electricity, buttons on the steering wheel, and a sound system with four speakers.
How Much It Costs:
- Maruti Suzuki said they are raising the prices of all their cars in April 2025. We don’t have the exact prices for each version of the new Wagon R yet in some reports. However, it’s expected to cost between ₹5.64 lakh and ₹7.35 lakh (before adding taxes and other charges in Delhi).
