Isuzu D-Max EV Shown: Offers Up to 262km Range

Isuzu, a well-known maker of strong work vehicles, has officially shown its first all-electric pickup truck, the D-Max EV. This showing is a big step for Isuzu into the electric vehicle world. It keeps the familiar tough look and abilities of its diesel version while using technology that produces no emissions.

The D-Max EV, which was first seen at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, looks very much like the updated international diesel model from 2024. This means it has the same strong and powerful appearance that the D-Max is known for. It has some small electric-only design touches, like blue lines on the front grill and headlights, along with sporty black wheels. At first, the electric model will only come in a useful four-door style, good for both work and personal use.

Power and How It Works

Under the familiar outside is a big change: an electric system with two motors. With one motor on each set of wheels, the D-Max EV has four-wheel drive all the time. It produces a total of 190 horsepower (140 kW) and 325 Nm of turning power. Isuzu says the electric pickup can go from 0 to 100 km/h in a pretty good 10.1 seconds and can go faster than 125 km/h.

The electric motors are powered by a 66.9 kWh battery, placed under the floor to take up as little space as possible inside and in the cargo area. This battery gives a tested driving distance of up to 262 km on a single charge. While this distance might not seem very long compared to some new EVs, Isuzu points out that it should be enough for city trips and shorter drives. The D-Max EV can use fast DC charging at speeds up to 50 kW, which can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in about one hour. For charging at home, an 11 kW AC charger will fully charge the battery in about 10 hours. The vehicle also uses a system to get energy back when braking and has a special Eco mode to help drive longer on a charge.

Off-Road Ability and Usefulness

A key part of why people like the Isuzu D-Max is its ability to drive off-road and its usefulness, and the EV version wants to keep this reputation. Built on the same strong frame as the diesel version, the D-Max EV has a ground clearance of 210mm and can drive through water up to 600mm deep. Its front and back angles for going over obstacles, at 30.5° and 24.2° respectively, also make it better for tough ground. Plus, a special Rough Terrain Mode makes the four-wheel-drive system work best in very rough conditions.

Even though the battery pack makes it heavier (it weighs 2350kg), the D-Max EV can still carry over one tonne (1010 kg) and can tow up to 3,500kg. However, Isuzu hasn’t said yet how towing affects the driving distance. Importantly, the usual leaf spring suspension in the back has been replaced with a new de Dion setup, which is expected to make the ride smoother and the handling better, especially when carrying loads.

Inside and Features

The inside of the D-Max EV looks a lot like the diesel model, with an all-black interior and a focus on being practical. Key features include a touchscreen system for entertainment and information with phone connection (likely Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), a digital screen for the driver, two-zone climate control, heated front seats, and sensors for parking in the front and back. While the exact details of the advanced driving safety systems haven’t been fully shared, upgrades are expected to improve safety and convenience. Isuzu also says that the noise and shaking inside the cabin are up to 10% less than in the diesel D-Max.

When It Will Be Available and India Launch

Making the left-hand drive Isuzu D-Max EV has already started in Thailand, and it’s expected to be delivered to European countries in the third part of 2025. Making the right-hand drive model is planned to start by the end of 2025, with sales in the UK expected to begin in 2026, followed by other areas depending on what people want.

Right now, Isuzu hasn’t said if the D-Max EV will be launched in India. However, with the slow but steady improvement of EV charging stations and a growing interest in electric work vehicles in the country, a future launch in India is still possible. The D-Max EV concept was shown before at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo 2025, suggesting possible future plans for the Indian market.
